With this course we focus on the most important Bushcraft and Wilderness Skills to make being in nature as pleasant as possible.

After receipt of your deposit you will receive from us the other information about the trip, course, workshop or package, Such as a packing list with the necessary equipment and additional information about the route and eventually the flight(s) and/or train(s) to be booked. Bushcraft week Finland: Learn the most important wilderness skills

These rules apply up to and including now (will be checked daily and updated if necessary):

  • You can travel to Finland (as of July 1, 2021 with your corona card) if:
  • You were fully vaccinated 14 days or more ago and can demonstrate this with an English language document, or;
  • You can show that you have recovered from COVID-19 and have had at least 1 vaccination. you must have been vaccinated at least 7 days before arriving in Finland. Or:
  • You can show that you recovered from COVID-19 less than 6 months ago, or;
  • Are you traveling to Finland for family or business? And have you not been vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19? Then you must show a negative PCR or antigen test no older than 72 hours. And you must then spend 14 days in home quarantine.

This week course is held at one of our training locations in the wilderness of North Karelia, Finland and is the result of a collaboration between Bushpappa and Karu Survival.

Welcome to the easternmost wilderness of Europe!

This beautiful piece of wilderness is located in Eastern Finland and offers a unique environment for being outdoors and learning various bushcraft skills. The diversity of nature, different streams and animals form an unforgettable environment to experience pure nature.

North Karelia is known for its beautiful forests, clean air, clear lakes and the silence that contribute to a real nature experience. Besides the beauty of this nature, we have a good chance to encounter the black bear, moose, lynx or beaver, or at least the traces of these animals, during our walks.

With this bushcraft weekcourse we focus on the most important base Bushcraft and Wilderness Skills to make your life in nature as pleasant as possible and to prepare you for your own future adventures in the wilderness.

Content of the bushcraft weekcourse:

Safe handling of Knife, Saw and Axe:

  • Chopping and splitting firewood
  • Cutting a pothook
  • Making pegs
  • Carving a spoon
  • Making a tripot to cook with
  • Making natural rope

Fire and Outdoor hygiene:

  • Various kinds of tinder
  • Feathersticks and Finnish Cluster shavings
  • Different types of campfire models
  • Firesteel
  • Flint and stem
  • Firebow
  • Maintaining a fire
  • Preparing and cleaning up a fire place (Leave no trace)
  • Drinking water from nature and how to purify
  • Preserve food and protect it from wild animals

Shelter:

  • Tarp,
  • Lean-to,
  • Loue,
  • Tepee
  • Buttons
  • Accommodation of natural materials

Orientation:

  • Map and compass
  • Natural orientation
  • 2 day hike with 1 overnight stay in the wild

Cook a campfire:

  • Bread / Bannock
  • Fish roasting
  • Making a stew (meat)
  • Smoking

Wilderness first aid:

  • Acting in case of arterial bleeding
  • Unconscious patient
  • Overheating
  • Broken limbs
  • Emergency signals

Included in this bushcraft weekcourse:

  • Knife (Mora Companion Heavy Duty). You can take it home with you after the course.

In juni 2019 heb ik de bushcraft basiscursus gevolgd in het ruige Finland. Een prachtig gebied met moeras, bos en meren waar je in volledige stilte van de natuur kunt genieten. Onder begeleiding van twee ervaren instructeurs hebben we de vaardigheden die nodig zijn voor een leven in de de natuur uitvoerig behandeld. Het tempo was prettig en er was voldoende tijd om te oefenen. Maar ook er op uit met een rugzak en overnachten in een typisch Finse blokhut aan een meer was onderdeel van de cursus. Ik heb er veel van geleerd en daarnaast ook nog veel gelachen. Rick en Miko dank voor dit mooie avontuur.

Afgelopen juni heb ik deze Bushcraft Basics gevolgd in het afgelegen Noord Karelië. In een prettig tempo worden een flink aantal basisvaardigheden op een fijne manier uitgelegd. Ruim gelegenheid om alles te oefenen. Je eerste lepel snijden gaat nl niet zo snel als je zal willen en ook de vuurboog is een kwestie van volhouden gebleken (wel gelukt!) Uitstekende verzorging waarbij je uiteraard ook zelf aan de slag gaat. (elke dag brood bakken bv) Je hebt dan een hele mooie totaalbeleving in een prachtige bushcraftomgeving. Aanrader!
