From horseshoes to premium forestry tools
In the early years, Moritz Trept crafted horseshoes, nails, hammers, knives, scythes, hatchets, and axes – each marked with his signature symbol: the horseshoe. This mark remains a symbol of quality to this day.
Over time, the forge specialized in high-quality hand tools. In 1906, the first patents were filed. In 1919, the next generation took over and expanded operations. During the 1930s, production moved to the current location where BISON still manufactures its tools today.

- 1879: Moritz Trept establishes “Trept – Huf- und Hackenschmiede” in Großschönau.
- 1906: Specialization in hand tools and first patents filed.

- 1972: Nationalization in East Germany and growth into a major European manufacturer.
