What can you expect?
Our journey begins in the vicinity of Ängra, a picturesque village in the heart of Sweden, surrounded by vast forests and glistening lakes.
What's on the programme?
✔️ Learning outdoor skills in winter, such as building a shelter, making a fire in the snow and navigating in winter conditions. But also making handy bushcraft tools to make camp life more enjoyable.
✔️ Snowshoe walks through the enchanting winter nature, looking for traces (prints, hairs, scratch marks, feathers and much more) of animals in the snow.
✔️ We teach you to look at your surroundings differently. This will allow you to see much more.
✔️ Enjoy the silence and the beautiful views during the walks.
✔️ Learn more about how plants and animals adapt to winter conditions.
✔️ An exciting overnight stay in a self-built snow shelter (optional).
✔️ Opportunity for ice fishing on one of the nearby lakes.
What will this trip bring you?
✔️ A week without a busy schedule and screens, but with time to let go of all the stress of everyday life.
✔️ Back to basics. What is really important in life? That is what we will be working on.
✔️ Time for self-development. By learning outdoor skills, you will build self-confidence and personal leadership.
✔️ Routines. Routines are very important in outdoor life. But routines can also be extremely helpful in your daily life, bringing structure to your day.
When are we going?
We welcome you to Ängra, our starting point, on Sunday 8 March 2026. We will spend the night at the beautiful Wildlife Sweden accommodation. Packed with our rucksacks and snowshoes on our feet, we will step into the enchanting white nature on Monday. Now the adventure really begins. On Saturday 14 March, we will return to civilisation. There we will have time for a nice hot shower and to organise our materials. We will end the day with a delicious winter meal and spend our last night at Wildlife Sweden's accommodation. On Sunday 15 March 2025, we will say goodbye after breakfast and leave Ängra.
Our base camp for this trip is ‘Wildlife Sweden Camp Ängra’. At this hidden gem, just a four-hour drive north of Stockholm, you can enjoy all kinds of outdoor adventures. From wildlife watching to hiking, canoeing and fishing. Marco and Sigrid, the hosts, will do everything they can to make you feel at home. I would recommend taking a look at their website.
Of course, we can't guarantee it. But there is a chance of seeing the Northern Lights on this trip. Especially on clear nights with little to no cloud cover. But what exactly is the Northern Lights? It is caused by charged particles produced by the sun colliding with gases such as oxygen and nitrogen near the Earth's magnetic poles. These collisions produce green, pink and purple light that can be seen in the sky as dancing waves.
In winter, it seems as if all the animals are hibernating and hiding. But nothing could be further from the truth. Of course, there are a number of animals that hibernate, such as the European brown bear. But the snow shows that many animals are still active in winter, gathering food and surviving.
