The Wood Carving Workshop is your practical introduction to traditional wood carving. In one session, you will learn the basic techniques of spoon carving or spatula carving and go home with a unique utensil that you can proudly display. You will work step by step with natural woods and discover how shape, grain and finish come together in a beautiful and functional result.
We start with a clear introduction: which wood to choose (wet or dry), how wood is structured and which knives and handles to use when. Then we practise safe carving techniques with a focus on ergonomics and control. Once you have mastered the movements, you choose your workpiece: a spatula, tablespoon or, for example, a teaspoon – whatever suits your level and style.
During the Wood Carving Workshop, you work at your own pace. The instructor walks around, gives personal instructions and helps you make choices about shape, hollow, handle profile and edge finish. This allows you to experience first-hand how small adjustments in technique or tools make a big difference to the end result. Beginners build confidence; advanced students refine their details and finish.
Ready? Then take your homemade spoon or spatula home with you – sustainable, usable and with a story. What's more, you'll have a solid foundation in spoon carving: from wood selection and safe working posture to sharpening, sanding and oiling. Perfect as a stepping stone to more projects, at home or around the campfire.
Is the workshop suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. We start with the basics and you will receive step-by-step guidance with a focus on safety.
Can I choose between a spoon or a spatula?
Certainly. You can choose on the spot (spatula, tablespoon or teaspoon) whatever suits your pace and interest.
What is the difference between wet and dry wood?
Wet wood cuts more easily and quickly; dry wood often gives a tighter, smoother finish.
Will I really take something useful home with me?
Yes. You will finish a spoon or spatula and receive tips on how to continue oiling/maintaining it at home.
Do I need my own tools?
Tools are provided. If you have your own knives, you can bring them (sharp and clean).
Is there a strong focus on safety?
Yes. We start with a safety briefing and practise controlled grips and cuts for maximum control.
